Biography
The Sky Realms hold many secrets to be revealed..
Short Story
Dear Diary
Saw a greatfalcon today on the flight to the Lighthouse! Fifteen-meter wingspan and the most BEAUTIFUL red and white plumes. I want one for a pet, but
Shrike says they eat horses, so that might not work out.
-Crysta
Hey Diary
Coming to you from my quarters on the Lighthouse! Tomorrow we're dropping into the Breach. I'm a teeny bit nervous. My first hunt didn't go so well, but I promised Lead Scientist Winterdew I'd look for a tome on lithofluid dynamics in the old Academy, so I'm giving it another shot..
-Crysta
Dear Diary❤
Returning to Havenshard after a few missed entries, sorry about that! Didn't find Lead Scientist Winterdew's tome, but I did have a pretty good hunt with
Shrike,
Elluna, and
Myth.
Myth might be rude and kind of creepy, but wow is she good with that bow, not to mention her spooky forest powers...
all I'll say is that I'm happy to have her on our side, even if I don't know why she picked us.
Dad's birthday is coming up. I want to take the day off, but there's a lot of work to do routing power to the new apartments for those refugees from the Risen Empire. It's important to be wecoming when new neighbors move in!
-Crysta
Diary...
Myth asked to come into the reactor core with me today. She wouldn't say why! I told her it was WAY too dangerous. She scowled and went off without saying anything else.
Then later when I was in there let-ting off some serious heat (it's been a while), I turned around and there was
Myth, inside the core, watching me!
Obviously I stopped the outflow right away. I couldn't believe it! She should have been vaporized the moment she entered. At 85% turbine speed I'm turning 37,000 liters of water into steam every minute! Diary, it is hot inside that room!! When she saw me looking she walked back through the wall. I guess whatever lets her do that doesn't care about five meters of graphite and feysteel.
-Crysta
Dear Diary,
Today was rough. Risen Empire warships appeared off Havenshard's loading docks and demanded we give up those refugees I mentioned, except they didn't call them refugees, they called them "defectors."
Lead Scientist Winterdew went over to talk with them and didn't come back. Meanwhile the Chancellor was running around getting a quorum together, to figure out what to do, and I was with the Havenguard keeping watch from the docks. I guess some of the refugees didn't trust us to pro-tect them, though, because in the afternoon a few of them tried to sneak away on a skiff. The warships intercepted them right away.
Tomorrow might be dangerous. I hope I don't have to hurt anybody...
-Crysta
Diary,
The warships were gone when I woke up.
Shrike thinks it had something to do with
Myth, but
Myth won't say (typical). I hope Lead Scientist Winterdew is okay.
The Chancellor intends to get a diplomatic delegation over to the Risen Empire right away.
The last thing anybody wants is a war.
I was fixing an irrigation leak in the agricultural com-plex when
Myth came to see me. I told her straight-out that I thought she'd been very reckless recently. She listened for a while, and then she asked me to follow her.
She took me into the forest on the northwest end of the main island, into a part I'd never seen before. We walked for a long time, and I got a little worried that maybe she was planning to fight me!
But then we came into a clearing with an ancient, half-dead tree at its center.
It seemed like someone had started to cut into the tree at its base, with a feysaw maybe, and this had severed the life in that half of the tree. It was a real shame, because the other half was majestic: enormous and gnarled, with gorgeous emerald leaves.
"Can you heal it?" asked
Myth, indicating the cut in the trunk.
I didn't really know what she meant,
but I went over anyway, took off my gloves, and placed my hands against the wound.
I'm not a botanist or anything, but when I touched the tree I felt like something inside was... hungry?
I started pushing Nuclarite into the gash.
Dear Diary,
Dad would have been 55 years old today. I still wonder why I became a Soulborn and he didn't. We were both right there in the plant when it hap-pened, and if anything I was closer to the core than he was.
The city was evacuated, that Abyssal was still a couple klicks off, and we were so close to powering everything down and getting out ourselves.
But of course that's when the earth split
open,
our half of the plant flew
skyward, and the half responsible for cooling it stayed behind.
If we'd had just a few more minutes I don't think there would have been a meltdown. Then I wouldn't be made of Nuclarite and Dad would still be around.
But I can't focus on that. It's like he always said:
"The important thing is moving forward."
Miss you, Dad. Happy birthday.
Dear Diary,
Saw that greatfalcon again.
There were two this time!
Shrike said they were probably a mating pair.
The sky was especially beautiful today. I know the Chancellor is worried about the Risen Empire and the Sunswept Dominion and all sorts of other things... but I can't help feeling hopeful.
Tizyo
One of the refugee children gave me a doll she made. I'm keeping it on my top shelf, where Izzy can't get to it.
3
We're building something special here.
And I can't wait to see it grow.
-Crysta
And, Diary... it was like the tree slurped the energy straight out of my hands...
After a while it became very bright above me, and when I stepped back I saw that the dead half of the tree had turned pink! There were magireactive veins coursing up the trunk, and Nuclarite leaves sprouting from the branches.
Myth smiled. That's the first time I've seen her do that.
"Thank you," she said.
"You're welcome," I said.
So I guess we might be friends.
-Crysta
